Premier 30s vintage rare Dominion Ace 14 x 6.5” Birch snare drum

I don’t see any of these snares in circulation anymore.

This rare gem has a very distinctive and amazing vintage sound, unlike most more modern (but still vintage) Premier Birch snares.

Main reason for this is its diecast hoops are totally different from the later Premier versions.

It still has its original damper fitted, and when new had 2 separate parallel action snare controls.

The 2nd snare control that operated snare wires inside the top skin has been removed.

When that was operational it would have made the drum sound more like a marching snare and can tend to choke and muffle the drum’s volume.

So, in terms of usability, I believe most drummers who play this would not want a second set of snare wires under the top skin anyway.

This is a player’s drum, not a collector’s.

It has a very recognizable 1930s character similar to the kind of snare sound that Gene Kruper used in his legendary movies from this era.

As you can see in my pics, the hoops are not in new condition anymore with some corrosion visible.

The snare mech has been rebuilt to give it many more years of reliability and the timber shell has Reo hoops as you would expect.
