Ludwig 1976 vintage Red Vistalite 6pce shell pack
Please see all my pics as they’re a part of the description.
It breaks my heart to part with these drums because I’ve had them for over 2 decades and they’re just not getting the use they deserve anymore.
They’re fitted with Remo clear Ambassadors top and bottom, and when tuned well, they sound like a Maple or Birch kit.
As you can see in my small selection of pics, they look excellent indoors with spotlighting, but once I set them up outdoors with varied daylight, they came alive in a whole new way.
It makes you wish there were even more outdoor gigs in Australia!
And of course on stage under a light show, they can look even more amazing again!
These drums were used regularly earlier in their career, and consequently have a number of marks on their shells.
They’re still noticeable when you get up close, from a distance they are very hard to see.
When I bought this kit, it had been imported from the US, and the 16” floor tom had a repair on its seam.
Since then I’ve had that repair cleaned up and strengthened by Melbournes professional Vistalite expert, and he’s done a superb job.
He assures me there is no chance of the seam giving way, and all 5 other seams are in excellent original condition.
It comes with Pearl floor tom legs because they are longer than the very short original Ludwig legs.
And, you don’t need to set this up as a 6pce every time either, it can be a 4/5/6pce, whatever you choose.
I have seen a number of blue, black, and clear Vistalite 70s Ludwigs for sale in Australia, but only one other red Vistalite kit.
I’ve also noticed several 3pce 70s Vistalites sell online recently for around $2700 for one bass, one rack, and one floor tom and they were not red.
So I think, considering the rarity and exciting color of these, they are easily worth $4000, and probably even more to the right owner.
This is a very, very rare kit in players’ condition.
