Back in the mid 70s, Pearl introduced the ground breaking wood fiberglass and fiberglass drumkits.
Before this happened, Billy Cobham was already legendary for playing a US made Fibes see through double bass drumkit, and Fibes began making fiberglass kits and snares.
And Buddy Rich was playing Fibes fiberglass snare drums! Wow,,,,,,
In the 70s, Pearl, Ludwig & Fibes were 3 companies pioneering the ground breaking use of non wooden shells for their drums.
And many drummers at that time discovered they were producing a very exciting alternative professional sound.
From Pearl’s Catalogue:
The Pearl fiberglass drum shell is a nonporous & not aging & the strongest material impervious to moisture, and any normal abrasive action.
It produces the most sensitive and brilliant sound with the perfect tonal response on all dynamics.
It’s engineered for today’s sound & today’s projection.
BTW as you can see in my pics the mirror chrome finish can be tricky to capture without reflections.
But the chrome is still in great condition.
As a result, I had to hold the camera at a strange angle to minimize the very strong light reflections in order to get these photos.
And the lugs now may look as though they’re not centred on the drum shell but believe me they are!
This 14 x 8in beauty has a fat very exciting sound similar to a Maple or Birch snare.
8in deep snares are not mentioned in the Pearl 77 catalogue, only the 5in and 6.5in fiberglass models.
So this was more than likely a custom order or prototype back at that time.
Its very rare and I’ve only seen 6.5in deep versions over the past 4 decades.
As you would expect from a snare of this age, it has some minor marks which should not spoil your playing pleasure.
And the original internal damper is present & ready to reduce the ring and the volume whenever needed.
Used, cleaned and in very good condition. [SD 0938]
My price is just $595
